Cheech & Chong’s
Coffeeshop in Amsterdam in it’s second incarnation.

Utrechtstraat 21
This place has a different feel than most coffeeshops. Wood tables and benches are well designed and comfortable. Vibe is good, lots of locals popping in. Worth checking out!

Basjoe
I always passed this place by on my way to other coffeeshops, and it took my good friend Lee Bridges, the Cannabis Poet to steer me in one day, as this is one of his favorite haunts.
James the proprietor and barman and dealer is the cool dude with a long ponytail made from dreads (one of the longest I’ve ever seen). Last time I was in he had me cracking up with his funny comments.
The shop has three outside tables that fill up fast on nice days. You can’t beat the view at the intersection of two canals, with the Zuiderkerk clock tower looming above (one of my favorite views).
Inside the walls are full of posters for upcoming events so it’s a good place to come to find out what’s going on in town.
Basjoe’s get’s high marks for service because they have a different attitude towards their customers than most coffeeshops. The staff is friendly, the smoothies are excellent and they even have table service. Now that’s cool!
If you want a good deal on hash, from a friendly & funny dealer, visit Basjoe’s on the Kloveniersburgwal.
Tip: The Himalayan black hash is some of the best in town. It’s soft, smooth and almost out-of-body. James always has excellent weed, which he says is now all organic! He has some really sweet stuff going down. Try the Special Haze or just ask James what’s good today.
This place has become much more popular lately (I wonder why?). Good goin’ James Leonardo! If you visit say hi from the HipTravelGuide, and they’ll treat you right!
Cafe del Mondo
There are some coffeeshops in Amsterdam which experienced campaigners will recommend for the quality of the grass or the variety of the menu. Delmondo is not one of these smoking establishments. Situated on the periphirals of the Red Light District, Delmondo is a somewhat chic venue which offers a well stocked bar and a decent, if limited selection, of hash and weed. The prices or quality are not exceptional, but this is not the kind of place you go to for a bargain. The vibe is much less seedy than most of it’s contemporaries and you could almost think you were in a French brasserie if it wasn’t for the rich smell of cannabis in the air. With genuinely laid back staff and an area outside to smoke on a sunny day, there is possibly nowhere else in the city which is more relaxed to light up a joint in.

Hunter’s Pub
A ‘unique’ Coffeeshop with newly redone dealer’s bar and full beverage bar makes this a great hideaway in the Red Light District.
The latest addition to their menu was Sour-Bubble, and it’s much better than something more famous from a more famous shop down the road…
Always convenient for me to stop in on the way to the office, the Hunter’s Bar had a really funky dealler’s bar in the back, dingy to say the least; but now it has been nicely redone with a more welcoming feel. The menu here has always offered some favorites like Buddha’s Sister and Kali Mist, but my new favorite as I said is the Sour-Bubble.

I have just spent four days appreciating the atmosphere and herbal delights of this and it’s immediate neighbor “Wild Style”. I can say: Economical Friendly Safe Welcoming…. Need anymore?? I’m back in England now ….Depressed I wan’t to go back NOW!!
Homegrown Fantasy
Reported as permanently closed, the Homegrown fantasy was a unique favorite for many years. The review below was posted in the past.
Coffeeshop on the Nieuwezijdes Voorburgwal, recently redecorated and known for organic grass. I highly recommend the Apple Jack (if available). It’s possibly the best organic smoke in the country! Not far from the Dam Square.

I have had a bad experience with the bartender/dealer at the Rembrandtplein location laying heavy pressure on you to buy cannabis in addition to drinks. He actually lied and said you had to buy some in order to stay.
Don’t give in! YOU DON’T HAVE TO BUY CANNABIS TO VISIT A COFFEESHOP, just a drink. Otherwise they’re no better than street dealers.
If you don’t like the pressure to buy cannabis, report them to the KvK (Chamber of Commerce).
Until they lay off the pressure to buy cannabis, and start treating their customers with more respect, we do NOT recommend this coffeeshop!
